Summer Students

As a Pre-OD, OD1, OD2 students have a chance to work in an FYidoctors clinic of their choosing for a min of 1 week up to 12 weeks from May to August. During this time, students will focus on pretesting as well as learning other important areas of our clinics learning our patient pathway.

Externships

Our well-established Clerkship Program offers future optometrists world-class learning opportunities through clinical learning. These programs allow students to gain valuable experience providing exceptional patient care on-site through our busy and technology laden clinics

Scholars Program

This fantastic program aims to partner with the next generation of optometrists. Created for Canadian students studying in the U.S, receive financial support in addition to mentorship and networking opportunities.

Campus Ambassador Program

Our Campus Ambassador program connects you as a student to one of our amazing Optometrists who have expressed interest in being mentors to the next generation. Have your questions answered about what it is like to practice as an Optometrist, learn more about different specialties and more!

You’ll likely see one of our great ambassadors at any in-person or virtual events we do at your campus.

Student Experiences

Students that join us through our Clerkship and Internship programs often secure full-time new grad opportunities with us.

"I was a student extern from February to May 2024. I had the pleasure of working alongside Dr. Bunny Virk at two locations Mission Square and McKenzie Towne. There is a great variety of demographic of patients that I saw ranging from ocular disease, contact lenses, binocular vision, and post operative care. It was great to be able to practice full scope optometry at a practice with cutting edge technology."

"We've had a fantastic summer working at FYidoctors. Our practice coach has given us plenty of opportunities to work in pre-testing, front desk and in the dispensary. The optometrists have given us the opportunity to review interesting cases, discuss journal articles and practice our clinical skills. We also really enjoyed the weekly presentations on a variety of different topics relevant to our clinical education including myopia management, dry eye and specialty contact lenses. The weekly social hours provided a fun way to connect with other optometry students. We were also able to experience the full patient pathway ourselves including pre-testing, a full eye exam and getting fitted for a new pair of glasses. The FYidoctors team has been excellent at gathering our feedback throughout the summer and ensuring that we get the most out of our experience. We would highly recommend spending the summer at FYidoctors for an engaging and educational experience."
